ROYAL MAIL CELEBRATES 50 YEARS OF THE ICONIC
E-TYPE JAGUAR WITH A COMMEMORATIVE STAMP SHEET


Royal Mail is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the E-Type Jaguar with a special commemorative sheet of stamps.

Issued on 30th March the sheet features ten close-up photographs of E-Type cars, alongside ten patriotic 1st Class Union Flag stamps.

In March 1961 the E-Type made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show where it stunned the motoring world with its sleek good looks and 150mph performance.

At a time when it the UK was the third largest producer of cars in the world Jaguar cars was one its great success stories. The E-Type became the must-have car for celebrities and professional drivers. Early owners included George Best, Jackie Stewart and The Beatles.

With regular updates to maintain its position as market leader, the E-Type stayed in production until 1974.

Ken McConomy, Jaguar PR Director said: “It’s great that Royal Mail is celebrating the Jaguar E-Type’s 50th anniversary with this commemorative sheet. Jaguar cars are all about great design, and nothing symbolises that better than the E-Type, which broke the mould half a century ago and has since become a true icon of car design.”

The Commemorative Sheet pack also includes a look at the history of Jaguar Cars and more images of the car’s inner workings from the 1961 launch brochure.



Philip Parker, Royal Mail Stamps spokesperson said: “The E-Type Jaguar is a stylish and iconic car of the 1960s. It was described by some as the most beautiful car ever made so its 50th anniversary is a very fitting subject for one of Royal Mail’s commemorative sheets of stamps.”
